If you work remotely and tend to stay at home 100% of the time – why? You have the incredible gift of being able to work from anywhere.
Depending on your job’s flexibility, you could work from around the world, in a different country, state, or anywhere!
The beauty of remote work is that you’re not bound to a particular location or lifestyle due to your job. You can switch things up and stay on the beach or go to the mountains.
If the opportunity to explore a new culture or country without needing to take time off time from work doesn’t excite you – you’re in the wrong place.
Here we talk about workcations, what they are, and how to do them effectively.
Because you’re not on full vacation mode – you still have work to do. I mean how else will you be able to afford them?
On the plus side, if you’re used to taking your work to a coffee shop you’re already a few paces ahead.
But first, let’s get something off our chest.
What exactly *is* a workcation?
A workcation is when someone who works remotely takes their work with them on “vacation”.
Where work + vacation actually equals workcation.
For example, I wanted to go to Tulum to get away from the cold weather of Connecticut in March. So instead of taking the time off from work, I took my work with me.
When everything you do is on a laptop, all you need is a wifi connection to keep you connected and a mind that knows how to prioritize.
They’re perfect if you want to dip your toes into the perks of work of being a remote worker (working & traveling) but don’t want to plunge into becoming a full-time digital nomad.
The best part of a workcation: extra time in your desired location
Experience a country, city, and culture during an extended stay which is about 8 or more days.
Having extra days in a new location gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself even more.
You can stay for two weekends and cross off bucket list experiences that you couldn’t do in one weekend.
Easily switch up your routine
Workcations give you a chance to recharge and switch up your routine.
Some remote workers travelers travel for 2-3 months at a time. But traveling for long periods of time can be taxing especially when you’re just starting out. Even I love to work from home and be home for a month or two at a time.
Workcations for perfect because they’re short and sweet but long enough for multiple memorable experiences throughout the year.
Why settle for one or two trips a year when you can conquer 4+ all while working at your job? Or if the country you’re visiting is huge, travel to multiple cities and stay for an undetermined time to experience all of the eats, drinks, and experiences until you’re ready to leave.
